Sterling Silver (.925), wood (Ebony, Lechero Rojo or Carreto) and Azurite.
Azurite is a soft, deep blue copper mineral produced by weathering of copper ore deposits. The blue is exceptionally deep and clear, and for that reason the mineral has tended to be associated since antiquity with the deep blue color of low-humidity desert and winter skies.
Toucan - Wood and Azurite Necklace
- Azurite is a rare variety of gemstone quality copper ore. Azurite is one of two basic copper carbonate minerals (malachite is the other). Azurite is rarer than malachite and considered more valuable as well.
Azurite is more sought after by gem and mineral collectors, rather than jewelry designers.
Azurite's color closely resembles that of lapis lazuli (minus the speckles of gold pyrite). Often times, Azurite is found mixed with malachite; hybrid malachite and Azurite specimens are known in the trade as 'Azure-Malachite'.
